Questions & Answers
Q: What motivated you to enter the drug and alcohol treatment field?
A: While I was a student, I gravitated towards the treatment field. I wasn’t uneasy around the patients. I grew up in an environment where substance use was common, so treating patients struggling with addiction felt like home to me. I’ve always held the belief that someone who is struggling with a substance use issue deserves the same care as anyone else.
Q: What is the best part about the work you do?
A: I absolutely love watching the transformation that occurs between detox and discharge from treatment. Watching our clients change during the treatment process is amazing. It brings me a lot of happiness to be a part of their journey and to witness the growth that happens while they’re with us.
Q: What advice would you give someone who is struggling with a substance use disorder?A: First, I would tell them that help is always available. Second, I would let them know that they just need to hang on and push through the rough moments – they won’t last forever. Finally, I would remind them to never give up, because there is a much better life waiting if they want it.
